New Northern School of Art

Hartlepool is home to the Northern School of Art (formerly CCAD) which came top in 2014 and 2015 for UK art and design graduate employability. The School's £11m state-of-the-art campus, a 45,000 sq ft facility, offers degree courses in the likes of Production Design for Stage and Screen, Fine Art, Commercial Photography, and TV, Film and Theatre Production.

To ensure the town continues to provide a bright future for budding creatives, the Northern School of Art is working with Hartlepool Borough Council to launch a film studio on the site of the former vehicle depot in the heart of the town. The 3,000 square metre film and TV sound stage studios will be the largest between Manchester and Edinburgh and will boost film and TV production in the North East region.

Progress

  • The Council has re-located it’s vehicle depot from the Lynn Street site to facilitate the expansion of Cleveland College of Art and Design.
  • Construction of the new College campus is complete.
  • The Northern School of Art have a number of new courses to be released in conjunction with the opening of The Scott Building linking firmly to educational and work experience opportunities within TV and film production.

Next Steps

  • The Council will support the College with its future expansion proposals and explore opportunities to grow the creative industries economy.
