Helping Britain Work Well Strategy - HSEs New Health and Safety System Strategy

When people are harmed at work it not only leads to pain and suffering for those individuals but also their families, as well as causing disruption and damaged reputations for companies and costs to the whole economy, making business and Britain less competitive.

Tackling workplace health is a key theme in the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) new health and safety strategy “Helping Great Britain Work Well” http://www.hse.gov.uk/strategy/index.htm.  The strategy has six strategic themes:

To assist businesses, the HSE has developed a range of tools and guidance designed to help SMEs understand health and safety and control risks at work. The H&S ABC toolkit http://www.hse.gov.uk/abc   provides businesses with an easy guide to health and safety management including:

A   Health and safety made simple: Clear information on what business must do to comply with the law.

B    The health and safety toolbox: Practical guidance on who business can control risks.

n

C    Risk assessment tools: Simple tools to show business how to identify their hazards and risks and produced tailored risk assessments for their workplace.
